With more than 50 career education and transfer degree programs, this two-year college is situated in the foothills 10 miles southeast of Chico. Butte College provides quality education and services to the community. This includes: degree transfer and certificate programs in lower division arts and sciences and in vocational fields; basic skills instruction, English as a second language, and support services that help students to succeed at the post-secondary level; educational alliances and partnerships with local and regional business communities in the interest of promoting economic strengths, tracking workforce needs, and upgrading the workforces; adult non-credit education; and community service courses and programs. The college is student-centered and makes use of innovative, flexible teaching methods and scheduling formats. It provides a cooperative organizational environment in which to work and seeks methods to accommodate the growing demand for student access to higher education. |

California State University, Chico, established in 1887 as the second oldest campus in the California State University system, is located 90 miles northeast of Sacramento. Chico was rated in the top tier of western master's colleges and universities in the 2008 issue of U.S. News and World Report’s editorial, "America’s Best Colleges." Chico offers 69 baccalaureate and 31 master’s degree programs. The university has achieved distinction as a leader in the high technology fields of media production, telecommunications and distance learning, instructional design, organization development, quality management, and multimedia design and application. The university is able to respond to the ever-changing needs of business in a variety of ways. Services provided by the Survey Research Center include policy directed information gathering surveys, viewer and readership surveys for the media, market research, consulting on research design. The Center for Manufacturing Excellence was established in 1993 to grow the regional economy by providing an array of technical and management services to area manufacturing firms. The Center for Economic Development (CED) provides research and social/economic data to area firms interested in knowing more about the regional economy. CED also provides export trade assistance to local companies. |

California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), one of the 23 campuses of the California State University system, is located just five miles from California’s capital. The university offers 60 baccalaureate and 40 master’s programs. CSUS is organized into seven academic colleges. Programs in the colleges of Business Administration, Engineering and Computer Science, and Health and Human Services are highly rated. More than 30 research and service units are associated with the university such as the Real Estate and Land Use Institute, which has gained regional prominence in the fields of real estate research, professional education, and land use economics. Founded in 1908 as the "University Farm," UC Davis has grown to the largest of the nine University of California campuses in area (5,200 acres), second largest in budget and third largest in enrollment. The campus stands 23rd in research funding among universities in the U.S. UC Davis is an acknowledged international leader in agricultural, biological, biotechnological and environmental sciences and is gaining similar recognition for excellence in the arts, humanities, social sciences, engineering, health sciences, law and management. The university offers more than 100 full-range undergraduate majors and 80 graduate programs in three colleges, as well as professional schools of law; management; medicine; and veterinary medicine which is the only such school in the state and consistently the top-ranked veterinary medicine school in the country.
